Tupac-Inspired Pop-Up Cafe to Honor 20th Anniversary of Rapper's Death
Category: Various Date: September 8, 2016, 11:57 pm Feed: Rolling Stone

A Tupac-themed pop-up restaurant serving dishes envisioned by the late rapper will open September 13th at 7 p.m. at the Fulton Mall in Fresno, California.

Before his death, Tupac sketched ideas for a cookbook and restaurant based on his own recipes, as well as contributions from other musicians. One sheet, on display at the Grammy Museum, boasts his ideas for the Powamekka Cafe: a logo that incorporates an ankh symbol, some branding slogans and drawings of bathroom doors for "Divaz" and "Playaz."

Now the Powamekka Cafe will open thanks to the efforts of Fresno burger shop, Take 3, and Sam Hansen, a foodie and marketing director for the minor league baseball team, the Fresno Grizzlies. Hansen notably helped orchestrate an annual Taco Truck Throwdown at the stadium that got so popular the team started renaming itself the Fresno Tacos for the night.

Along with menu items culled from Tupac's original sketches, the Powamekka Cafe will also serve some of their own original Tupac-themed dishes. Per 2dopeboyz, the menu will include a California Love Chicken Sandwich, Hennessey Apple Butter chicken wings, a Mac-and-Cheeseburger and Thug Passion cake pops, which are decadent champagne cakes coated with Alizé butter cream frosting.

The opening night festivities for the Powamekka Cafe will also include a Tupac-themed art show and local musicians performing their favorite Pac tracks.
