About the band:
1920's European Cabaret! Balkan Wedding Music! Neo-Classical Opera! Old World Yiddish Theater! Welcome to the six piece, Portland, OR based Vagabond Opera. The ensemble delivers an eclectic mix of original and traditional compositions, unified by an old-world mood. Gut-bucket swing, tangos, Paris hot jazz, Ukranian folk-punk ballads, Arabic bellydance, Klezmer, operatic arias and vigorous originals mingle with Absurdist, Bohemian Cabaret style, all played with skill, exuberance and a gritty vagabond edge. Every show is a cabaret of rich musical phrasing, sparkling lyrics and indomitable stage presence! The Portland Oregonian calls them “A surefire spectacle."
“Everything about them is first-class: the music, the band, the voices, the arrangements... Listening to Vagabond Opera is like taking a trip back in time and into the future at the very same time, and that ain't easy!" - WNWR, Philadelphia .
Vagabond Opera has played with Pink Martini, The Decembrists, and the Oregon Symphony and includes members of The Everyone Orchestra, Taarka, Brothers of the Baladi and the March Fourth Marching Band.
