The Band:
High Cotton is a trio that creates a pure acoustic sound centering on original songs with a unique perspective. It is a blending of dynamic amd devilishly expressive vocals built on a firm guitar/percussion/bass foundation. Each member has played in various types of bands over the years…ranging from Pop, Jazz, Celtic, Rock and Country. Lead singer Laura Monk is also a professional Story Teller and published writer of children’s music. High Cotton’s style ranges from Americana to Folk Rock with interesting stops in between! High Cotton started as a duo with Laura and John Monk in 2003, PJ found Laura & John and joined to make a trio in the Fall of 2005.
The Name:
In the South the phrase High Cotton recalls a time when your fortune was determined by the success of your crops. If you grew cotton and things were well….the cotton was high and your success was guaranteed….therefore we chose this name in the hopes that we would guarantee SUCCESS!!!

WELCOME..
A little Southern hospitality and Americana wisdom awaits you in our music! This "Southern Belle" somehow got caught up with these two Northern Carpet Baggers and things haven't been the same since! Great music is created out of the blending of the most surprising things!...that is what we think you will find in our tunes.....a unique interpretation of some to the most everyday things....those red Mary Jane shoes I used to wear, my honey in his black jeans, and the gift of a beautiful guitar. Some things just turn into special songs....at least we hope you will think so...stop on in, pull up the rocking chair, crank up the sound and have a listen...Oh and "Y'all come back now, ya hear?"
