Encuentro del Canto Popular
The Encuentro del Canto Popular is an annual concert that celebrates and promotes nueva canción, Latin American music with a social justice message. The Encuentro began in 1982 as a fundraiser for El Tecolote Newspaper. Over the years the Encuentro has brought many of the world's foremost composers and musicians of nueva canción to the San Francisco Bay Area.
This year is the 25th anneversary of the Encuentro, and features Totó la Momposina from Colombia, The John Santos Quintet, and Carne Cruda.
