A current member of ASCAP, Ernest Johnson started Head Productions in 1995. The name Head derived from the last name of a close friend whom Ernest worked with that started a video company with the same name. That was prior to 1995. In 1995 he carried on that name as a loyal salute to that friend. Head Productions has produced soundtracks for independent short films shot in Atlanta, house music for night clubs, and commercial music which aired on National Public Radio and local stations With a small following growing, and now record labels calling, HP is preparing to expand the company to California. And like Steely Dan, HP has never done a concert, only recorded in the studio. Almost always putting out one CD a year they rarely get burned out... as long as they are not over loaded with others projects.
Ernest started music in the sixth grade playing snare drum for the concert and symphonic band through a pack with his father. Never really being interested, he stuck with til 11th grade to have something to do. He dropped out of music then and joined the performing arts club to act. Several years later he accidently got back into it. And although acting is his first love with Bill Cosby's Cosby Show, In the Heat of the Night, Spike Lee's School Daze, and others on his resume, he finds himself always getting sidetracked back into the music scene.
Other members of the company include Josh Walden, Paul Long, Douglas Ward, Lafayette Rutledge, Tanuel Renee Taylor, Bird, and Jesse. And their contribution is greatly appreciated and well deserved. Non company member contributors are H. Johnson, Ron Pullman, Riquaiya Ward, the late Ken Baity, and Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). You can listen to many other tracks by Ernest and Head Productions at National Public Radio WABE, handzonradio.com, and www.wrfg.org.
And please, if you have nothing good to say about the tracks, say it. And
show who you are so we can talk. And we won't think that someone is hiding
behind their words. We respect you all.
Our technique for producing is to use very little audio layering, more midi recording and step recording, about 90% sampling, no time stretching AT ALL. Rex-ing samples mainly, tempo matching to audio WAV never reverse. Note matching, over sampling, equalizing , effects-ing i.e. (echos, distance spacing, hall, ping pong pan bouncing), and reverbing individual instruments on each track except Kiks and Snares. Average of 56 tracks per song mastered and mixed down to 2 stereo. vinyl affected, 50% of the time, then final print to release print, to your ear.
Just remember, we don't always play by the standard music rules when producing music. This is our standard.
Our Record/Movie soundtrack label is Rushtron Music Publishing, BMI. All tracks © copyright 1995-2009
