Robert (Riz) Thomas was born and raised in the aggressive streets of North Philadelphia, PA, home of the notorious gangsters and substantial murders. As a child growing up with violence all around, Riz, turned to music, however, the streets did call. As a child Riz indulged in various types of music, ranging from: soul, blues, Latin to rap, though he favored hip-hop. Riz grew up listening to artists such as KRS-1, Biz-Mark and RUN DMC. Following those artists careers more...Riz preferred artists with similar lyrical fashion, that east coast smooth, swag, with respects to Tupac Shakur; performers like B.I.G, Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, and the list goes on.
Riz started writing his own music to suppress what was calling his name; at the age of 12 he was writing for class auditions and talent shows. Riz didn't take rapping seriously at first, even though recognizing his talent, because the odds were against him. Riz's older brother Ayres (Shammy) acknowledged Riz's talent and encouraged him to continue writing through the years.
A little over a year ago Ayres started producing Riz's CD. After 3 months of building a fan base and distributing Riz Da. Nickel, tragedy occurred and Ayres (Shammy) Robinson, brother, best friend and mentor of Riz was killed on March 07, 2009, 21 days before his late brothers 29th birthday. Two weeks after the tragedy, Riz traveled out to Los Angeles to pursue his one love of rapping, but also what his brother/producer believed in. Currently residing in Los Angeles, you can find Riz on his grind everyday in attempts to getting his voice and lyrics heard.
