Malik and Grimm are two sources of truth, flowing together and embodying the hip-hop duo, Aquarius. Aquarius answers Hip-Hop’s calling for an awakening through their positive and socially conscious lyrics that undeniably breaks the binds of stereotypes afflicting hip-hop today.
Passionate, dedicated, talented and limited only by finance, but never deterred, Aquarius, through their own grass roots efforts, plan to release their first official album in early 2007.
The duo is a progeny of the Hip-Hop culture and is at the forefront of the impeding evolvement of Hip-Hop music. Aquarius broadens the scope of Hip-Hop music and contributes to the rapidly increasing demand in hip-hop for music with truth, depth and substance at its foundation, as evidenced in there single "I Got Questions". Aquarius imparts their universal message -- doing right by others, especially during adversity, will make the world a better place -- through crafted beats, and socially conscious lyrics laced with comical overtones reminiscent of the “good ol’ days” of Hip-Hop,
Aquarius’ lyrical depth reflects the duo’s personal journeys from their adolescent years to adulthood and parenthood. Aquarius rebuilds the bridges in Hip-Hop through songs like “Streets of Frisco” and “Southern Comfort”, which clearly portrays how staying positive and having a sense of humor are remedies for overcoming daily struggles. Keeping their dreams alive, pursuing their passion to keep Hip-Hop true and pure – this is Aquarius. Their music reflects positivity, appreciation for life’s struggles and rewards. Aquarius is Hip-Hop; grown, educated, and family-oriented.
Listening to Aquarius’ tracks and the cohesiveness of their lyrics, one would think that their music is a result of years of friendship and collaboration, when in actuality, like two bodies of water running its course and eventually merging, Malik and Grimm met and formed Aquarius in 2004. Malik was born in Southern California and primarily raised in San Francisco and Grimm, from Chicago, now calls The Bay Area his home. Their bond is further sealed through respect for each other’s talents – Grimm, the lyrical poet, and Malik’s vocals and creativity; shared influences – from Johnny Hathaway, to Quincy Jones, to Nas, Mos Def, and Common, to name a few; and reliance on truth as the source of their music. Ultimately, Malik and Grimm attribute their cohesiveness to their similar love for music and Hip-Hop.
With performances at various clubs and venues throughout the Bay Area, Aquarius has been gaining local support at a momentous pace. Aquarius plans to keep it coming full force through more live performances, and of course, all the while, recording tracks for Hip-Hop.
