Artist Information
Since forming in late 2003 the young men of Appomattox have slowly been perfecting their frenzied sound and well-crafted songs both on stage and in the studio. Led by the impassioned shout stop vocals and hyper-kinetic guitar playing of their energetic and somewhat insane front man Nick Gaynier, the trio's live shows have become mandatory for all who seek the cathartic glory of what once was indie rock. Anchored by the sinister melodic pulse of Dave Nurmi on bass guitar and propelled by the metal-on-concrete bombast that is James Mello's drumming, the group have recently self-released a 6 song EP described in glowing reviews as:

...a perfect wrangling of those middle two Blonde Redhead albums, the first couple of Radiohead records and a squeeze of Jawbox..."

"If Black Rebel Motorcycle Club shot up a lethal dose of speed and abandoned the country, Fugazi with higher ambitions...songs that engage and enthrall..."

Appomattox was recently nominated for "Best New Local Artist" for the 19th Annual 2006 Boston Music Awards. A couple of tracks from the EP, We're Alright and Either Way are already in heavy rotation on the local music shows of 101.7FM WFNX and 104.1FM WBCN, 2 major Boston radio stations. The latter of which has invited Appomattox to compete in the high profile 2006 WBCN Rumble. Following their sold out CD release party, Appomattox will keep playing their explosive live rock shows in Boston and New York City as well as up and down the East Coast. The band looks forward to touring the US and Europe whenever the opportunity may arise.

Reviews
"The resulting six songs reveal an ambitious and explosive interplay between melody and calculated noise. Nick Gaynier's voice immediately sets the band apart; his tone is crystalline and distinctive with a range much higher than his peers. The musical foundation for the power trio is clearly pop, but the jolts of guitar and stuttering percussion uncover an ear for experimental no-wave, post-punk, and even classic rock..." APPOMATTOX SPEAKS TO YOUTH
"When I say youth, I mean 20-something-year-olds working out relationship issues. Appomattox produces some thick, rugged rock jams that really shine through with their lyrics that speak out (to me anyways, maybe not you)... (Read More...)

"Whoa. Have you heard these new Appomattox tracks? Whaddya mean, Who? Appomattox! The best band in Boston that everyone always forgets to call the best band in Boston when it comes time to say silly things like that. Their songs are a perfect wrangling of those middle two Blonde Redhead albums, the first couple Radiohead records, a squeeze of Jawbox and, oh yes, even some original bits that are all them..."
-Boston's Weekly Dig: Humor, News, & Nightlife

"Appomattox, a three-piece frenzy that harkens the glorious underground days of indie rock. With a sinister vibe and undercut guitars riding shotgun to stop shout vocals that engage and enthrall, Appomattox quirks shape its grinning face. If Black Rebel Motorcycle Club shot up a lethal dose of speed and abandoned the country and Fugazi had higher ambitions, it might sound something like tracks We're Alright or Either Way."
-The Pill, www.thepillboston.com

"I haven't seen Appomattox in quite a while. Either I was having a bad night then, or they've gotten WAY better, because I remember kind of liking them, but tonight they are awesome. They're an indie rock three-piece with tuneful and impassioned vocals and noisy guitar. At times, initially, I think the rhythm section is screwing something up, but I think that's just a series of great, weird syncopations and rhythmic breaks. And just when I think that gee, the guitar parts could maybe use more single-note stuff instead of strumming, the guitarist and bassist launch into one of the most wonderful lines-twining-around-each-other sections I've ever heard. Great stuff."
